    I had to install a Sharkbite in-line shutoff valve ahead of this poorly designed sillcock in the basement because I’m unable to keep it from leaking. And by the way, Sharkbite now makes a variety of outdoor faucets that appear to be top quality and as just as brilliantly designed as all Sharkbite products are. I’ll be replacing all of these overly complicated old sillcocks with the Sharkbite versions instead of trying to rebuild these relics.

    I paid $45 for this faucet. Within 2 years it's leaking. The best price I can find the for the repair kit is $10. I found a faucet that isn't frost-proof for $15. That's just a regular faucet. Instead of paying $10 for a replacement valve repair kit, I bought a new faucet and replaced the whole thing. I figure ever 1-2 years I'm going to be spending $10 or more on a repair kit. What a scam. I feel stupid for buying this product.

  • @Sajohata

    1. Use repair kit, still drips unless super tight. 2. Crack the knob because of cranking on it to stop dripping. 3. Replace knob and entire stem factory assembled 4. Crack another knob because of the same drip 5. Try a final full stem 6. Same drip, Install a whole new faucet

    On the C-108, it needs to be pitched down toward the spigot to allow the hydrant body to drain out, correct? So the whole thing needs to be mounted slightly crooked on the wall? How much offset is needed to ensure it drains properly?

    That goddamn bell washer is the biggest pain in the ass I've ever had the misfortune to have to deal with. No matter which end of the stem you put it on from (and there are no instructions telling you the best way), you have to drag it over sharp projections on the stem, and you have to stretch it until it's ready to snap to get over them, so it's already taken a beating before it even goes into service. At least put a little picture of how it goes on, because it's guaranteed (I find out later) to turn inside out when you pull out the stem.

  • @rrando99

    Too confusing. Too many variants, Too many replaceable parts. No instructions on what goes on the end. I'm about ready to go back to an old style freeze proof outdoor fawcet.

  • @OuterEdgeOutpost
    @OuterEdgeOutpost Місяць тому

    You should clarify the pitch issue in the install instructions. It says they "require" a pitch but doesn't explain if it's built in or something I have to do myself in the installation. I was googling for days before I found this video. On the C-108 it also doesn't specify if there's a correct direction for install, which there must be if the pitch is built in.

  • @SeanBaker

    What he did at 00:10 seconds is exactly what fixed my issue. The water was leaking from the green handle only when a water hose was connected. When the water hose was connected, the water was coming out of the handle in a nice steady stream. I then tightened it, and the water only came out in slow drops. Then I tightened it a little bit more, and there's no more water leak from the handle. I was ready to replace all the pieces to get this fixed. Such a simple solution that took me multiple years to figure out. 😂

  • @RobertoSiffredi-xy1nc

    DEFECTIVE design. My Prier M400 has always dripped behind the handle. As the drip because a stream, I bought the repair kit 630-7755 and replacement handle based on the Prier repair videos. Despite following the instructions, the handle continued to leak. The 630-7755 and handle cost me $30 and were a complete waste of money. The defective design is where the packing nut and handle attach to each other. It is a plastic-to-plastic connection WITHOUT any washer whatsoever. Under water pressure, water seeps out no matter how snug you tighten the handle and the water streams out behind the handle. This is DEFECTIVE design and cannot be remedied by a new handle, new packing nut or any of the other difficult to replace washers. EPIC FAIL!!!!

  • @RobertoSiffredi-xy1nc
    @RobertoSiffredi-xy1nc 3 місяці тому

    My M400 steam did not look anything like the stem pictured. Mine has a rubber boot gasket at the end. My hydrant has been leaking and despite using replacement parts from the 630-7755 kit, the hydrant continues to leak. Can the stem be defective? After spending $30 on a new handle and new replacement parts, should I throw more money at a replacement stem? Why does my M400 stem look so different than the one in your demo?

    • @RailmanKC
      @RailmanKC 2 місяці тому

      Does it happen to have 4 holes, 2 on each side? If so, I have the same stem and spent quite a bit of time trying to find a replacement for that stem. I ended up buying the universal stem part number P-231-02US and robbing parts off of that stem, replaced the graphite packing and the included washer, I also used some plumbers tape on the screw that holds the handle on because it was leaking through the front of the handle. I had to cinch down pretty good on the large nut behind the handle in order to keep the nut from leaking. After all that, it works like a new faucet now.

    • @RobertoSiffredi-xy1nc
      @RobertoSiffredi-xy1nc 2 місяці тому

  • @blk-qb9fp

    This video and comments below about white vacuum breaker having broken off were very helpful - especially suggestion to use hair dryer to soften the hard white plastic. Note: since this video was make, the replacement part for the vacuum breaker has apparently been modified. In Wall Hydrant Repair Kit #630-8500, the white plastic part self contains the poppit (sp?) that is in the middle. I was worried about damaging the poppit in the middle but no need to be concerned.

    I'm very confused. I replaced the whole vacuum breaker and cap with the equal Prier replacement kit one mentioned here and double checked installation, yet water is still seeping down out of the sides of the cap. If I've replaced the whole thing now with a new one, how could it still be leaking? Fyi - My original breaker and replacement kit are the newer version where the inside piece of the breaker that has the small o-ring is fully locked inside the larger white piece due to a small plastic screen bottom piece that snaps into place (so the inner small piece cannot fall out).
